Reflection: Yi De

1.What interests you about this project?
I like building things, thus when I heard that we're suppose to build a water tower, I naturally picked this project.
2. What do you want to learn by doing this project?
I want to learn how water towers are constructed and how it works.
3. What questions do you have about this project?
Why such a simple structure can do such a big task.
4.What do you personally want to have achieved by the end of this project?
I want to achieve the basic understanding of how water towers could be built in places like Africa.

reflections on Plenary

I have learnt a lot today which includes how strong and powerful Nano Technology is, and a more in depth view of how exactly and what happens when Earthquakes appear.

Technology was able to help us identify the possible timings and areas of when earthquakes are going to strike and even showed us the deep sea, and what lies beneath, achieving something that humans can’t, since the water pressure would be too strong for a normal human being.

Nano Technology is indeed great but dangerous at the same time, pixelated designed uniform is indeed very innovative and a great idea, but then, the many other uses of Nano Technology do cause very harmful effects that may not affect us now, but perharps in the long run.

After learning how animation is made from in the past, I begun to respect the workers of this occupation even more, it requires incredible concentration and determination. I do watch anime a lot, but I do not have the stamina and determination to actually do the task if it was me.

It is amazing how technology has brought us to where we are today, from predicting earthquakes, making animation easier to bullet proof vehicles. Technology could be very useful and yet harmful at the same time, that’s why in my opinion, we shouldn’t explore the advances of technology too much, after all, knowing too much usually doesn’t lead to a happy ending.

Reflections on Applied Project Challenge: Your Accomplishments

Discuss how the project has deepened your understanding and broadened your awareness of the selected discipline.
This project has allowed me to understand how structures and a more in depth sight on weight distribution, and which is the most appropriate one to be used at that point of time. It also teaches me how hard it is just to make one model, and too showed me that wood is not all that weak and was able to withstand 41KG(the winning group)
What do you now understand about this discipline that you were unaware of at the beginning?

Although I already am aware of the importance of weight distribution, I did not know the best design that would do so, and experiencing it first hand, having the glue stick on to your hand, being by your team, and having fun. Lastly, watching our towers put to the final test, that indescribable feeling.
Describe how what you have learned from doing this project can be connected to what you are learning at school.
It could make us understand how our school structure was built and the reasoning behind it.
Describe how you can apply what you have learned from doing this project.
We can use this in future projects.
At the end of the project, what new questions do you now have?
What material is most commonly used to make the structure and the water tank.
